Airbnb Cleaning Fee Calculator

There’s no single right cleaning fee. The useful number is what a turnover actually costs you once laundry, restocking, supplies and your own coordination time are counted, and how much of that you want guests to cover directly. This calculator adds up your true turnover cost, shows the fee that breaks even after the platform takes its share, and how much you’d need to absorb into the nightly rate.

  • True turnover cost
  • Break-even cleaning fee
  • Amount to absorb per night

How it works

True turnover cost = cleaner + laundry + restocking + supplies + other + (minutes ÷ 60 × hourly value)
Break-even cleaning fee = true cost ÷ (1 − platform fee %)
Fee at target = true cost × recovery % ÷ (1 − platform fee %)
Left to absorb = true cost − (fee × (1 − platform fee %))
Per night = left to absorb ÷ average length of stay

The platform fee is included because Airbnb, and most OTAs, take their percentage from the cleaning fee as well as the nightly rate. A $100 fee on a 15.5% host fee pays out $84.50.

How to read your results

Your coordination time is a real cost. Scheduling, checking photos and handling missing items adds up across dozens of turnovers a year, even if it never shows on an invoice.

Decide how much the fee should carry. Recovering 100% through the fee keeps nightly rates competitive in search, but makes short stays look expensive. Recovering less spreads the cost into the rate. Neither is universally right; it depends on your typical stay length and market.

See how turnover costs change with stay length in the minimum stay calculator.

Illustrative example

A turnover with $75 cleaner pay, $18 laundry, $12 restocking, $5 supplies and 20 minutes of your time at $30/hour costs $120.00. With a 15.5% platform fee, the break-even cleaning fee is about $142.01. Charging $100 instead pays out $84.50, leaving $35.50 per stay (about $11.83 a night on a 3-night stay) to recover through the nightly rate.

Common questions

How much should I charge for an Airbnb cleaning fee?

Start from your true turnover cost and the platform fee, then decide how much to recover directly. Market norms and your typical stay length should shape the final figure, but the cost floor comes from your own numbers.

Does Airbnb take a fee from the cleaning fee?

Yes. Airbnb calculates its service fee on the nightly price plus any fees you charge, including cleaning.
